Country and Western

This encompasses many different dance styles and techniques and is performed to the accompaniment of country-western music.  This style of dancing is relaxed and has been influenced by a variety of different cultures. The origins of country and western dancing date back to the times when European immigrants travelling to North American in the mid-1800 practised round and square dances. There are both partnered and group dances. Obviously the most well-known of the group dances is line dancing but there’s also round and square dancing. Line dancing involves all the dancers performing set dance movements and routines and square dancing is slightly different done with a caller. Partner Country and Western dance includes Two step, Waltz, Schottische, Polka and Swing and traditionally the man sets the pace in leading the dance.
